Marouane Fellaini Expected to Miss Liverpool Matchup

With United gearing up for a mouthwatering encounter with Liverpool at Anfield next weekend, Jose Mourinho would have been nervously awaiting the results of scans to Fellaini's ankle.

However, Belgium have since confirmed that Fellaini sprained his MCL, which will rule him out for a "couple of weeks". "Get well soon Marouane!" the tweet read. There are fears that he has suffered knee ligament damage.

The full extent of Fellaini's injury won't be clear until he undergoes a scan, but he will play no part in Belgium's final group game on Tuesday against Cyprus.

"We fear that there is ligament damage". "Ligaments, left knee. More news [on Sunday]".

But he will miss United's bumper Premier League clash with Liverpool and the next two weeks.

Fellaini injured his knee in Belgium's World Cup qualifier against Bosnia yesterday.

It is unusual times indeed when we live in a world in which an injury to Marouane Fellaini is crushing news for Manchester United supporters, but the ungainly midfielder has rightfully earned his starting spot in the team during Paul Pogba's extended absence.

However, Mourinho still has a fairly good replacement in the form of Ander Herrera, but loosing Fellaini, who is in the form of his life, is a setback that would be very hard to cope up with, even if it is just for a couple of weeks.

United's next match is at Liverpool on Saturday and Jose Mourinho's side are already without midfielders Paul Pogba and Michael Carrick through injury. Fellaini has been an important part of the Man United team since coming in for Pogba, scoring four goals this season (including a brace against Crystal Palace last week) and going some way to silence his critics this year.
