Amazon Kindle Oasis (2017)

Amazon Kindle Oasis (2017)

The new Kindle Oasis improves on the luxury version of Amazon's e-reader line from previous year with the addition of an ambient light sensor to adjust the front light, which has an increased number of LEDs and is now more evenly spread. It had an intuitively designed ergonomic build that wasn't waterproof, high-resolution screen and a price tag most people found exorbitant. It also comes along with fast-charging capability that enables the device to be fully charged in two hours. The less expensive Kindle Voyage had an ambient light sensor, but it was oddly missing on the 1st-gen Oasis - Amazon has rectified that here, adding twin sensors that automatically raise and lower the light brightness to suit your surroundings. "Easily turn the page with either the touch display or dedicated page turn buttons", read the description of the new Oasis.

The Kindle has a battery life which can last for weeks and the screen size measures upto 7-inches. At it's thinnest point it measures an impressive 3.4mm.

You may also recall that last year's entry-level Kindle (generation 8) came with Bluetooth audio support out of the box. Amazon also launched the Echo Show, with a screen, and an Echo Look that gives style suggestions.

Amazon just announced the all-new Kindle Oasis.

The tech giant also believes it can counter falling figures with improved durability and specifications, and said its new Kindle is the "most advanced ever". It also has a marked advantage when attempting to read image-heavy works, like comics, on the thing (though comics on an e-reader is still a big no-go, as far as I'm concerned). The 8GB variant with Wi-Fi connectivity will set you back US$249.99 or roughly AU$320, while the 32GB model with Wi-F and a cellular connection will cost you US$349.99 or approximately AU$450. You get a full IPX8 water resistance rating, so the new Oasis can survive up to two metres underwater for a solid hour or so. The back of the new Oasis is also made of aluminum, unlike the 2016 version, and it's the first and only waterproof Kindle. Barnes & Noble's Nook business is dead, and Kobo has never been able to get real traction in the USA (although it's popular in Canada) outside of free-software fans and hardcore Amazon haters.

Both the Kindle Oasis 2 and its predecessor share the same basic DNA, but there are some noticeable changes in the updated version.
