Cleveland Cavaliers agree to trade Richard Jefferson, Kay Felder to Atlanta Hawks

The Cleveland Cavaliers have agreed in principle to send forward Richard Jefferson, guard Kay Felder, two second-round draft picks and at least $3 million to the Atlanta Hawks, league sources told ESPN.

The Cavaliers will receive the rights of two European players and receive a 2.6 and 1.4 million dollars trade exception.

The 37-year-old Jefferson is set to earn $2.5 million. "Certainly, both RJ and Kay are two guys we also wanted to have here with us this season", said Altman.

Jefferson is 37, and actually played in 79 games last year for the Cavs, a year after he considered retiring following Cleveland's improbably National Basketball Association championship.

That the Hawks would waive Jefferson isn't much of a surprise; the veteran wing would have likely retired rather than play in Atlanta. He appeared in 79 games and started 13.

"These situations and decisions are some of the toughest to be in and have to make", Cavs general manager Koby Altman said in a statement released by the team.

After the Cavaliers' preseason win over the Orlando Magic on Friday, Lue declined to comment on the trade, and Jefferson and Felder left without talking to reporters.

The Hawks chose the 6-10 Agravanis in the second round in 2015. A member of the Cavaliers' 2016 National Basketball Association championship team, Jefferson appeared in 35 postseason games for Cleveland and averaged 4.8 points and 2.8 rebounds in 16.0 minutes. Felder, like any 22-year-old, has promise as the 5-foot-9 point guard could develop into a nice bench point guard for someone else around the league.

Agravanis and Gladyr are both overseas, playing for powerhouse Olympiacos of the EuroLeauge and AS Monaco Basket of the French LNB Pro A, respectively.
