European Union imposes oil embargo on North Korea in symbolic gesture

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Sunday asserted that his diplomatic efforts to relax tensed relations with North Korea will continue "until the first bomb drops".

North Korea's delegation has stated that it considers nuclear weapons the only effective means of protecting the country's sovereignty, Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko told reporters on Monday after a meeting with Deputy Chairman of North Korea's Supreme People's Assembly Ahn Dong Chun on the sidelines of the Inter-Parliamentary Union assembly.

North Korea issued a strong warning to countries at the United Nations on Monday, stating that the countries all across the globe will be safe from retaliation unless they join the United States in military action against the Pyongyang.

"The whole mainland of the USA is within our firing, and if the United States decides to go to our sacred territory, even an inch, it will not save our severe penalties in any part of the globe", he warned. Trump has repeatedly said that diplomacy with North Korea is "a waste of time", and that there is only one way to deal with that threat.

The United States and South Korea on Monday began a 10-day joint naval exercise in a fresh show of force against the North, with a U.S. aircraft carrier and two USA destroyers taking part.

The retired four-star general said the Trump administration will not accept Pyongyang loading nuclear weapons on intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM).

The notes read: "As long as one does not take part in the USA military actions against the DPRK (North Korea), we have no intention to use or threaten to use nuclear weapons against any other country".

"Maybe it's true that the North has no interest at this moment in having the negotiations that involve its nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles", Gallucci said during a lecture at Yonsei University, adding that it is "possible" North Korea does not want to negotiate with the USA until they prove workable ICBM capability.

Fears over the potential outbreak of World War 3 have reached an all-time high, with Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un trading insults and threats.
