Sri Lanka Agree to Play T20I in Lahore; Upul Tharanga Pulls Out

Sri Lankan will travel to Lahore for the final T20 global against Pakistan on October 29, despite top players expressing their reservations on travelling to the country, where the national team was attacked by terrorists in 2009.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka's limited-overs captain Upul Tharanga has reportedly pulled out of the Lahore T20I due to security concerns and it is likely that the board would not consider him for first two matches as well.

Earlier, a letter was signed by 40 Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) contracted players, including most in the current squad, to president Thilanga Sumathipala, expressing the unwillingness to travel to Pakistan.

The first two games of the series will be played in the United Arab Emirates which remains the adapted home of Pakistan. It seems like we will be there in Lahore for only for 24 hours.

On top of security assurances from Pakistan's cricket board and government, SLC will be looking to further allay player fears by only staying in Pakistan for 24 hours.

Sri Lanka's Niroshan Dickwella leaves the field after being dismissed by Pakistan's Junaid Khan during the second one day worldwide (ODI) cricket match between Sri Lanka and Pakistan at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on October 16, 2017. He recalled that several Test nations did not want to visit Sri Lanka at the height of the Tamil separatist conflict, when bombs were exploding in the capital in the mid-1990s, but Pakistan and India had toured Sri Lanka at the time.
