'Missing' Pak journalist Zeenat Shahzadi recovered after 2 years

A Pakistani female journalist, who was abducted two years ago for pursuing the case of a jailed Indian engineer, has been rescued by the security forces from an area along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border on Thursday night.

The Journalist's family had assumed her to be dead but at last she had been rescued by security forces.

However, fellow journalist Beena Sarwar while quoting Iqbal, in her tweet confirmed Shehzadi's return.

"Alman Latif, Shahzadi's brother describe the incident to media with the agony that Helping an Indian prisoner Hamid Ansari has cost us dearly we have given so much of losses, His sister is missing and my younger brother Saddam hanged himself after losing hope to get reunited with her".

Iqbal said some "non-state actors" had kidnapped her, adding that tribal leaders in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa played an important role in her recovery, Dawn reported.

Ansari who has been missing since November 2012 was arrested for illegally entering Pakistan from Afghanistan to meet an online friend. Shahzadi was in contact with her mother and went out of the way to help her. Hamid was imprisoned for three years after Zeenat went missing.

Shahzadi's family has yet to issue a statement.

Soon after this, Zeenat had started receiving threat calls from unknown persons who told her not to pursue Ansari's case.

IA Rehman, the Human rights activists and former secretary general Human Rights Commission of Pakistan has advocated that Ansari should be released from Jail as he has already served his sentence. The Commission of Inquiry ordered the registration of a First Information Report (FIR), a missing person's petition, for Ansari in 2014. The two had been in touch on daily basis before her kidnapping. "Those powers were further strengthened in 2015 by the Pakistan Protection Ordinance (PPO) which offers greater power and the opportunity for impunity to the police, intelligence, law enforcement authorities and military for acts like forced kidnapping, torture and extrajudicial killings".
