Singapore now has the most powerful passport in the world

Most recently, the US and Turkey have become involved in a diplomatic dispute that has involved the suspension of visas.

Canada has tied for sixth place on a global survey that ranks how powerful passports are from each country in the world. What this means is that now if you have a Singapore passport, you can travel easily to 159 countries around the globe.

The ranking has come after Paraguay eased its visa requirement for Singaporean passport holders.

Singapore has the world's most powerful passport, said 'Global Passport Power Rank 2017' by global financial advisory firm Arton Capital.

'It is a testament of Singapore's inclusive diplomatic relations and effective foreign policy'.

Other Asian passports in the top 20 include South Korea, Japan as well as Malaysia.

On the other hand, the United States passport has fallen in the ranking since President Donald Trump took office, according to the index.

How does the Index work?


Tiny Singapore now has the world's most powerful passport, according to a new ranking, with its citizens able to travel to the greatest number of countries visa-free.

"Visa-free global mobility has become an important factor in today's world", said Armand Arton, founder and president of Arton Capital, at the recently held Global Citizen Forum in Montenegro.

How do you obtain a passport from a country you don't live in?

Passport Index ranks passports worldwide based on the cross-border access a holder has.

The methodology used to determine the rankings varies.

Germany is now placed at number two in the list.

Germany and Sweden ranked second and third, with a score of 158 and 157, respectively.

In 2015, the United States tied with the United Kingdom for first place.

The bottom five nations on the list are Afghanistan, which ranked 94th with a visa-free score of 22; Pakistan and Iraq both at 93 with a score of 26; Syria at 92 with a score of 29; and Somalia 91 with a score of 34.
