Brock Osweiler to start at quarterback vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Coach Vance Joseph, after about 48 hours of tape study from Trevor Siemian's disastrous start against the Chiefs on Monday night, chose to turn to Osweiler as the starting quarterback for Week 9 in Philadelphia.

The Denver Broncos have decided to make a change at quarterback ahead of Week 9, but you may be surprised to hear that Paxton Lynch is not the one getting the nod. But a choice between starting Siemian or Osweiler, in a game that could determine whether the Broncos maintain a fighting chance in the AFC playoff picture, is looming.

The Flathead High School graduate is back under center in Denver after head coach Vance Joseph benched starter Trevor Siemian following Monday's 29-19 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. In 2015, he went 5-2 as the Broncos' starter with 1,967 passing yards, 10 touchdowns and six interceptions.

His performance during that time resulted in a massive four-year, $72 million contract with the Houston Texans, where Osweiler lasted just one season after recording 2,957 yard, 15 touchdowns and 16 picks.

Joseph was asked by media Tuesday whether the move would be permanent as the Broncos move ahead in their 2017 season.

This marks Osweiler's second appearance in the regular season for the Broncos since they brought him back to Denver in early September after he was cut by the Browns.

"When you're football team is putting in max effort and the defense is playing good football, it's unfair to your team if you're not discussing that position, " Joseph said.

"He had 20 other plays that we're really, really good, " Joseph said of Siemian.

Lynch, whom the Broncos drafted in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft, has been dealing with a shoulder injury.

It would be a shock if a switch from Siemian to Osweiler is not made by Wednesday morning.

Joseph said Lynch hasn't played enough football yet since returning from the injury to be ready to start. Lynch started two games as a rookie last season and went 1-1.

Osweiler swore at the time he'd be a loyal backup, declaring, "This is Trevor's team and I'm the backup". Guys work too hard along with coaches and players to have a big game and give it away five times.
