Dismembered Bodies, Severed Heads Discovered In Tokyo Apartment

Police in Tokyo have confirmed the discovery of some 240 pieces of bone belonging to nine people, including heads and limbs which were found inside toolboxes and coolers at his apartment.

The grisly case has stunned Japan, which enjoys an extremely low crime rate, and pictures of the nondescript house in a quiet residential area were splashed across the country's front pages.

The AP reports that the missing woman met Shiraishi over a website for people with suicidal feelings.

The police are expected to file murder charges later.

Mr. Shiraishi was tracked down by investigators looking into the disappearance of a missing 23-year-old Tokyo woman who apparently wished to enter a suicide pact with another person, having tweeted she was "scared of dying alone", the Japan Times reported.

They are working to identify the victims. The brother later learned of the suicide site after logging in using her name and password, and found she had been in touch with the suspect.

Another told the newspaper he had seen Shiraishi several times late at night.

An investigation was launched after the woman's older brother reported her missing to the Takao Police Station in western Tokyo on October 24, saying he had not been able to contact her since October 21.

The police have not yet said whether the woman's remains were among those at Shiraishi's apartment.

Tokyo's Metropolitan Police Department on Tuesday arrested the apartment's resident, Shiraishi Takahiro, 27, on suspicion of abandoning bodies sometime between August 22 and Monday.

When they knocked on the door, he answered, and the police saw boxes inside. "During the course of the investigation, the heads of nine bodies have been discovered", the police told a local TV channel. When they asked Shiraishi if he knew where the missing woman was, according to the Asahi report, he replied, "In that cooler".
