Democrats Demand Sessions Testify Before Senate Judiciary Committee-Again

"I don't make anything sinister out of it", Conaway told CNN.

A former Trump campaign aide withdrew from consideration to be the top scientist at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Thursday amid scrutiny of his scientific credentials and his ties to the ongoing investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. Papadopoulos made the offer during a meeting that both Sessions and Mr. Trump attended in March 2016. Court documents reveal Papadopoulos exchanging emails with Clovis where they discuss meetings with Russian officials.

Also, it was only a matter of time before people began speculating who would be cast to play him in the inevitable made-for-TV movie about Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation campaign-meddling investigation.

Sessions "needs to come back before the committee, in person, under oath, to explain why he can not seem to provide truthful, complete answers", Senator Patrick Leahy, the panel's senior Democrat, said in a statement. Sessions, who is now the USA attorney general and was an early supporter of Trump's campaign, to say hello and mentioned he was headed to Russian Federation. Al Franken, D-Minn., that he had no communications with Russian officials during the campaign.

However, CNN reported on Thursday that John Cornyn, the second-ranking Senate Republican, who serves on the intelligence and judiciary committees, said that he had been unaware that Sessions was at the meeting.

Sessions has been quiet on his involvement at the session, despite being asked about it multiple times during several appearances on Capitol Hill. But on Thursday, the person familiar with Sessions' recollections said, "the attorney general has no clear recollection of this person".

"He now needs to come back before the Committee, in person, under oath, to explain why he can not seem to provide truthful, complete answers to these important and relevant questions", Leahy, a former chairman of the Judiciary Committee, told The New York Times. However, news reports from March revealed that Sessions had met twice with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak in the lead up to the 2016 USA presidential election. The call for more testimony came amidst revelations that Sessions may have committed perjury during his confirmation hearing.

"The attorney general needs to explain to our committee what are the obvious implications of his presence at that meeting, and how he can square that with his testimony to our committee", said Sen.

"I'm not aware of any of those activities", said Sessions in an indirect response to Franken's question.
