Mueller Investigating Flynn's Role in Alleged Plot to Deliver Cleric to Turkey

United States counsel Robert Mueller has initiated investigation into the alleged plot of former general Mike Flynn and his son to abduct Pennsylvania-based Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen in exchange for millions of dollars, RawStory reported. Mr Gulen has always denied any role in the coup that was carried out by rogue senior members of the Turkish Armed Forces that styled themselves as the Peace at Home Council.

As part of a recent investigation launched by the Special counsel Robert Mueller, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents have asked at least four individuals about a meeting in mid-December at the "21" Club in New York City, where Mr. Flynn and representatives of the Turkish government discussed removing Mr. Gulen, according to people with knowledge of the FBI's inquiries, WSJ said. Mueller's interest in the meeting and the possible discussion is the first known instance of a congressional member being involved in Mueller's Russian Federation probe, NBC News reported.

If Mueller and his team suspect Flynn tried to take official actions to benefit a foreign government, then anyone who tried to impede the investigation into Flynn's alleged misconduct might also face accusations of wrongdoing.

The alleged December meeting followed one on September 19 attended by people including Berat Albayrak, who is Turkey's energy minister and the son-in-law of Erdogan, and Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, according to the Journal.

Gulen, who has lived in exile in Pennsylvania since 1999, is a bitter enemy of Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan. In addition to founding and working for Flynn Intel Group, he joined his father on a trip to Moscow in December 2015 during which Flynn was paid $34,000 to speak at an event celebrating the state-sponsored news agency RT, NBC News reported.

But a new report in today's Wall Street Journal should rock the Trump administration, if not the president himself, because it deals with post-election conduct that may have continued even after the inauguration. Flynn has since resigned as Trump's National Security Adviser following allegations that he discussed easing sanctions on Russian Federation with Kremlin officials, prior to Trump's inauguration. Flynn was named Trump's national security adviser in November.

In March, Flynn registered as a foreign agent and revealed that his company, Flynn Intel Group Inc., received $530,000 during the later months of the election to lobby the US government on behalf of Turkey. Flynn had written an op-ed in The Hill on Election Day calling on the US government to extradite Gulen.
